We're Making Progress

It seems like once the office was cleaned out, we've made pretty good progress and things have moved along quickly.  We've made a lot of changes in the room.  Warren has always been good with electricity, working with an electrician after high school, and has done a lot of electrical work over the years.  He added several outlets and installed new switches, along with recessed lighting for the new office.  He also moved a heater to a different wall.

We chose grays for the walls and ceiling.  We used Benjamin Moore Smoke Embers for the ceiling, and Winter Gates for the walls.  The walls are a gray with a tan tint, and the ceiling is a  couple shades lighter.

The next step was to take out the old carpet and pad, then lay down the tar paper over the sub-floor.  We thought the office would be a good room to see if we would like hard wood floors.  We chose Bella Woods Brazilian cherry from Lumber Liquidators and had picked it up in Wichita when we were on our trip.

Our neighbor, Dan Reddig, came over on Friday to help us with installation.

finishing the floor.
We love the grain of the wood, such variety.  The colors vary from gold/browns to reds, but will darken in just a few weeks as they are exposed to the sun, turning  more to browns and even to dark red boards like you see when you think of traditional dark cherry cabinets.  We would like them to stay just like this, but they won't.
Most recently we have been painting baseboard, door and window casing.  Tomorrow our cabinet installation will start! Its going to start looking like a real office!
