Its been rather busy here the last week or two. The weather has certainly changed. We had our first snow flurries this morning, and its been super windy, making it feel even colder. The guys finished a big fall project yesterday - putting new shingles on Harvey & Gladys' house here on the farm. They worked for about 3 days on it, and I had a number of guys here to feed noon meals to. The new roof looks pretty spiffy. Here's a few pictures of the process.
Sunday was our annual Harvest Festival at church. Dick Nichols and his wife were here from Gettysburg, SD. Dick spoke in 2 services on Sunday, and also Monday and Tuesday night services. The church was decorated beautifully, and we served over 180 people a ham dinner with all the trimmings at noon on Sunday. I was in charge of the meal, and had a bit of a worry as the power went out a couple of times. The breaker at the power pole needs a little help, it happened in May for the graduation potluck too. We made it work, plugging only 2 of the 4 roasters in at a time, and rotating them every half hour. The coffee got done and the food was hot. whew! Pastor Frank showed his annual harvest video during the morning service, which is always good.
I canned a huge batch of salsa again today. I'm not taking more pictures of salsa, not even counting the jars this time. ugh! Still have boxes and boxes of tomatoes sitting in the entryway of the house. Here are a couple of pictures from last week when we picked the tomatoes and peppers that were still out in the garden. The forecast was for cold weather, so I decided it was time to quit messing with covering the plants with tarps, and just pick whatever was still out there.... There was a LOT. A couple of neighbor girls had come over to visit, and they were great, pitching right in to help out.
I made a gift album, but I'm not sure if the person its for reads this blog or not, so will post pictures of it later. It felt so good to scrapbook a bit! I would love to do more, but its just too busy right now. This coming Saturday we have a family memorial service for one of Warren's aunts. The service will be at our church, with a family gathering here afterwards. The next couple of days will be spent cleaning up the house and getting ready for guests. The Pampered Chef boxes came today. Warren helped me get the orders all sorted and ready for delivery. Its always fun to see what everyone ordered and see the products in person, instead of the catalog. I got a lot of new items myself, and have found room for most of it.
Talk about a hodge podge of news! Sorry for the disjointed update. :) Hope it kind of made sense.
